Hank Marvin

You have to know a bit about Cockney Rhyming slang for this one.

Hair rhymes with Barnet Fair, so your hairdo is called a barnet
Stairs rhymes with apples and pears, so you are 'goin' up the apples'
Beers rhymes with Britney Spears, so you can hear people ordering some Britneys in East End London.
Wife rhymes with troubles and strives, so you're going home to your troubles.

This guy's Hank Marvin.

I will thank you big time Chris for finally answering a half a lifetimes question on why during my 3 year stint in Britain my co-workers referred to hair as Barnet. They themselves did not know and no one I asked ever gave me an answer.

This line though should be: "Wife rhymes with trouble and strife, so you're going home to your troubles.

I'm sure Ken will correct me if'n I'm wrong.  :)

Digresion our specialty!

Clever spot. Most Americans wouldn't know Hank Marvin though. The Jorgen Ingmann version was the big hit here.

The usual phrase is "Brahms & Liszt", though in the US that would probably mean "annoyed" rather than "p*ssed".

Yeehaw! From Hank B Marvin to Jorgen Ingmann it's only a small to the legendary Tommy Seebach!

Guess they were rather Brahms when they shot that video! ;-)

Motzart, I think...

A right Jodrell (bank), or maybe a Merchant/Barclays (banker)...

I know some ladies that have stupendous bottles (and glass) and mince (pies - works for two parts of the anatomy)...

Sammy Hagar had a record out called Standing Hampton (wick - a place not far from here)

I've known some right BERKS in my time... this one is very obscene and has become common parlance but I'm sure most people have no idea how offensive they are being...

Gone for a Gypsy's (kiss) or dropped a William (the third) or a pony (and trap)... pretty obvious...

... and eating dodgy food will give you the two-bob's (two-bob-bits - two bob was an old expression for what was two shillings, or now 10p)

I can give you some good links but there's plenty to find by cruising the www
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

...which is where the Boston band The Bristols took their name.

Bristols bassist Kim Ernst is the girl who inspired Pat DiNizio's line in Behind The Wall Of Sleep ("she had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton back in 1965")
