Holy Cats!  I forgot that.  The keyboard player in my band then ran into Greg Guiffria boating up near Waukegan that afternoon.

Today at the station in honor of Jon, I played the studio version of "Child in Time", the live versions of "Highway Star" and "Lazy" from "Made in Japan" and "Wring That Neck" from "Deep Purple Live in Concert".

DP means a lot to me. To me DP provided fantastic autumn music and I drove home from college many times on back country roads, WAY too fast, listening to their music and watching the fallen leaves swirl up in the air as my car passed.

Was anyone else a fan of "Hard Road", which was the B side of one of Deep Purple's hits?  (I guess the original title was "Wring that Neck" but it was changed on the thought that some would not understand it was a guitar neck being referred to.)

I really like that instrumental - I still think it's one of the hardest-hitting rock numbers ever recorded.  VERY heavy on the organ content.

I always liked its mix of an almost classical melody over what is basically a 12-bar. They played it relatively long in their stage set too before it was replaced by Lazy as their improvisational blues song.

Rocked some Highway Star at rehearsal the other night. Our guitarist is like THE guy in Chicago and has an incredible knack for tapping out cool keyboard stuff, including the organ solo on this one. That was nice...

I liked that WhoCares stuff. Interesting lineup, and Gillan sounds great! I read that they're doing a full album now, though I don't know how they're going to handle the loss of Lord, combined with Tony's current condition.
