I was thinking that a fun project for that beast might be to fill those pickup routes, sell off the barts, dowel the extra control holes, veneer the top, finish it in some opaque color and make an SG-0 out of it - a minimalist SG bass with a single neck pickup.  That EBized TB+ pickup sounded good soloed when I had a chance to tool around on one of these a while back.

Then again, it's already up to $200 with four days left  :-\

As bad as it looks, it might actually sound pretty cool.  I'm sure if The Tractor were to turn up now, the Fender gang would gasp in horror, as well.  Hell, the parts alone might be worth the low bids on this beast so far.

I am thinking it may be a good platform for this finish:

I am a firm believer in varying degrees of wrong, (wrongness? wrongitude?).  And as bad as this creature is, I don't think it compares to this.

What about this one?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-1967-Gibson-Thunderbird-Tbird-Bass-Guitar_W0QQitemZ290237886911QQihZ019QQcategoryZ64402QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Place this one under idiotic.

When you say idiotic I hope you are referring to the asking price.  Let's remember that all Sixties basses survived the Sixties, a time of testing boundaries, experimentation and individualism. It is not surprising that many were modified.

Actually the NR reminds me of my own Thunderbird that was just a two year old used TB II in Cardinal Red that I stripped, stained, broke, fixed, and modified. (It still sports 2 Dimarzio Model 1's) Should I have just put it under the bed and not used it? No, I think not.

"Should I have just put it under the bed and not used it?"

Uhm, yes! And sell it to me 40 years later.  ;D

Just joking, young men are free to channel their sexual aggressions and frustrations into the alteration of inanimate objects, but did it really have to be DiMarzio Model 1s? Was the the sound of the original sixties pup that bad to your ears?
