I used to have several Rics, but not at the same time. I had a bad '76 4001, two good '76 3000s, a '76 3001 and a '75 4005WB. All gone, but I had some GAS, sold some stuff and now I will play two big festivals and national radio in two weeks on a '73 checkerboard binding and toaster loaded 4001:)

Beautiful bass- congrats!

Looks great and I'm sure sounds awesome.

Nice...

Gotta ask... what were the casualties...?

Not that much... It is a Ric with some issues;) Non-original bridge, it has some damages here and there, no stereo output... So very cheap for a '73.

You sold your 3000 without consulting me?  ???

Hey, that's a good way to get into one IMO.  I got mine on the cheaper end too, and it has a lot of player wear.  It reinforces the theory of "no money beyond the 12th fret"  (...or 7th fret, as the case may be  :) )

Why no stereo output?  rewired?

I did too!

I missed two of them!  ???

Seriously, I would have been interested. Neither of you would have known that since I hadn't spoken up. I haven't been in a buying mode at all for a few years but would have made an exception for the right 3000.

No you did not. ;-)

(I bought Chris's one and later sold it. So you just missed one. You did miss 2 changes to buy one though.)

Sorry Dave! But good examles do pop up on eBay for reasonable prices.

Dave W

I need to start actively looking.

Highlander

You're slacking, Boss... ;)

Chris... what I meant by "casualties" was not the cost but what instruments you sent out to the big-bad-bass-bargain-bin... ;)

A very good looking but bad sounding modern USA P:)

Basvarken

Congrats Chris.
A bad sounding P for a (good sounding) checkerboard binding 4001 is a wise trade ;-)
