Just heard about this last night and I haven't watched it all the way through yet, looks good.

Jack Bruce - The Man Behind The Bass (with YT video)

I've watched part of it.  Jack and Ginger are really showing their age since the reunion in 2005.  Wow...seven years ago?  There are some qualities about musicians as people that never seem to change.,

Jack does look older than his years now. Ginger looked old 45 years ago.

I never thought Ginger would make it to this age...he looked like a good candidate to auger in decades ago.

I've managed to watch about half of it, so far.  Brief observations...

  • This is as much a documentary about the constant fighting between Bruce and Baker as anything.
  • Anyone notice the Thunderbird hanging on the wall behind Jack's couch?
  • "I left Graham Bond at the wrong end of a knife, courtesy of Ginger Baker"
  • Clapton became the carekeeper of the band, constantly mediating between Bruce and Baker.
  • I have more respect for Clapton at this point, and less for the other two.

Nice documentary. My, oh my, how difficult they still are with each other, Eric the exception. So decades of psychoanalysis do work after all amd make you more relaxed with yourself and others.

That is even a new (teflon) TBird on that wall. Herr Wilfer probably doesn't allow him to play it though!

Nice doc. Most of the rehashed oldies sound real nice too, The Weird Of Hermiston sounds a bit off though .....

Wow! Ginger looks really bad and still puffing away. I don't give him long.

I know what you mean, 45 years ago I didn't think he had another 10 years left ;D. Bastard will probably outlive us all ;D.

We really don't know if he's in bad health, do we?

I think the documentary mentioned health problems as part of the reason he has to sell the horses or something like that. He looks like he can't lift his head off the back of the couch. Interesting documentary though.

Seems women have done him in financially:

"Baker is teetering on the brink of financial ruin after allegedly being fleeced by a South African beauty, whom he invited to become his personal accountant after she charmed him while working in his local bank."

I'm sure he also blames Bruce for that.

To listen to some of what Jack Bruce has to say, he states that Baker usually prefers living in squalor somewhere than anything else.  Musicians really are pathetic human beings all too often.
