+1 on the quality of the Indonesian VM Jags. The only thing I did to the neck on mine was hit it with a green Scotch-brite pad and some carnuba wax - it feels great under the left hand. I found this nice HB special in Ohio through E-bay, sent it along with a pair of '63 Thunderbuckers to JohnK and had him place the pickups per Carlos' measurements from one of his 'birds. John made the PG from Allparts' version of (regular vs. dark) black pearl. I think of it as the "ThunderJag"...

Mr. Spiritbass. Great bass! two questions:

- Is the chrome T-bird pick up ring as wide as the J-pick up at the neck?
- Did you use the old pickguard or a complete new one? and the same question as above: Has the chrome pick up casing the same widt as the middle split P?

Thanks Chris, my name is Ken. I'm at work (taking a break!) but I will perform some measurements after I get home. If you end up needing it, I have a spare chrome pickup ring. The pickguard is a one-off (he didn't make a router pattern) by John.

Cool, Ken! Thanks. I still have two chrome Gibson-housings around, with rings.

Thunderbucker width = 3 5/8" (93 mm)

Mounting ring width = 3 31/32" (100 mm)

Uh oh. Two Kens. I had that problem at the music store where I worked - the owner was named Ken. I was Ken two.  ;D

Chris P.

Ken two: Thanks! I have the pick ups and rings, so my question was more like: Are they wider than the P and J so you don't have any problems if you make a new routing? I don't have a Jazz and P pick up here at the moment to check.

dadagoboi

The P pickup rout is larger than the ring.  The Jazz is OK

And Carlo in for the save! I couldn't have supplied that info - mine was originally wearing a single humbucker near the bridge...

You're safe with the Ken here as they mostly use the Kenny moniker (when they remain polite ;D) with me here... In my avation apprenticeship basic training class, for six months, there were ten of us with two Ken's and three Steve's... At my mum's funeral there were four of us with the same complete name, including one of the ministers doing the readings (yep, there were two, in my aunt's front room) and although a Londoner the family hail from an Island where Donald MacDonald or MacLeod or MacKenzie are the most common names so everyone is known by a family or personal nickname... the local phone book is a joy to behold with over 85% of it signed over to surnames beginning with M...
