To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nirvana's breakthrough Nevermind album, Gibson USA is proud to introduce the Krist Novoselic Signature RD Bass. Through his distinctive playing with groundbreaking grunge band Nirvana, to his post-Nirvana bands Sweet 75, Eyes Adrift, and Flipper, Krist Novoselic has distinguished himself as a bassist of formidable tone and unmistakable style. Able to hold down a firm bottom end that glues a song together while simultaneously shining as a center-stage musician in his own right, Novoselic helped to establish a standard for the sound, feel, and style of alternative-rock bass playing of the past two decades. To honor this musician's impact on the sound of contemporary rock, Gibson USA presents the Krist Novoselic Signature RD Bass, an instrument primed with unparalleled playability and powerful contemporary tones, all dressed in an alternative style that countless modern bassists will appreciate. Finished in Ebony Black nitrocellulose lacquer, the distinctive lines of the RD body shape cut a figure that definitely stands out from the crowd, too.

Here's an interview with Novoselic: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/krist-novoselic-0928-2011/

Where on the official Gibson site can this be found? I couldn't when I tried just now. Sigh, this is going to be one expensive year for me!!!

Rob, in all fairness, the original RD, the Standard (and Novoselic played those too and liked their passice set-up over the "active-only"-one of the later Artists) was to all intents and purposes Gibson's renewed take on a Jazz Bass (sixties TB IV and seventies Ripper had been previous attempts). The stacked humbuckers with a narrow singele coilish magnetic field (courtesy of Bill Lawrence I believe) and their placement were a dead giveaway. This was at the height of the late seventies Jazz Bass craze, with Jaco having wildly repopularized the instrument as a weapon of choice. And you can actually play fusion with a Standard, it has that slightly bony sound.

Great that they've brought this out and for once at a fitting moment. Nevermind (pun), how I continue to be unimpressed about Nirvana's inability of grasp of harmonic chord relationships (some of those chord changes still grate on me after twenty years, I can't stand that augmented fourth/diminished fifth/tritone stuff unless you go for the doomladden effect it has, eg Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath, but not on every song please).

I bet those Seymour Duncans will sound great.

Obeche is a largely unprotected wood and even if it wasn't, hey, it's from Nigeria, a most corruption-free country, so everything will be alright I'm sure.

Indeed Uwe.  ;D
Yesterday I added four more pages for the EB11 and the oversized LP. A spread for each bass.
Now I can add another four pages. (You can't add just two pages in a book) Hope Gibson will come up with another bass soon enough to fill the two left over pages.

John Fertig, will you be my prom date for this once it can be ordered in the US? I cannot think of anybody more deserving than you to play it and give us an advance review, you practically invented RDs here. Besides it needs to be played in odd meters initially before it finds its ultimate fate in ze Kölleckshün. Ja bitte?
