Ventured into NYC last night to take in the Mr Big show at BB's. Wow. I don't think I've ever seen a tighter band, considering the flurry of bass and guitar notes that come at you. Sheehan was in rare form - the Attitude bas he was playing had neither the Model One or the Yamaha woofer pickup at the neck - or maybe it was the woofer, but taped over or with a cover. His recent conversion to Hartke was evident, with 4x10 and 1x15 cabs (3 of each), and a trio of Hartke heads. They played most of the good stuff, along with covers of "Smoke On The Water" and "Baba O'Riley" as part of the encores. One might be tempted to do a face palm at that, but they started "Smoke" with Sheehan moving to lead vocals, Eric Martin taking over guitar duties, Pat Torpey picking up the Attitude and Paul Gilbert sitting in on drums. A mid song breakdown had the front three switching roles yet again - Martin moved to bass, Torpey sang and Sheehan turned in a very respectable Blackmore solo. Sounds a little silly, but was quite entertaining.

Sounds like a great evening!
Saw them a few times during the Lean Into It tour, way back in the early nineties.  Those were excellent gigs.
I'd love to see them again.

They'll be touring Europe in October - no shows in your immediate area as yet, though.

That new album is good. Yes, it's show-offy at times, but in a good-natured Van Halen'esque way. Very entertaining.

I think the trading-places version of SOTW is a brilliant idea and I'm the resident Purple fan here! So it's anointed now.

Fans expect that, but never interferes with the songs. My favorite off  the new CD is Unforgiven.

They are coming to a small venue in Frankfurt in October, maybe I should see them?

Leave your better half at home though, join the 99% male audience in awe.

Maybe you should bring Edith.
They did cover a Cat Stevens song in the nineties!

A good portion of the reason I went was that my wife is also a fan and wanted to go. She made a good case - I hate going to see bands without original lineups. So, since everybody was present, accounted for and played their butts off, it was a worthwhile trip. BTW, the opening band was called Sweet Cyanide (from da Bronx), and they weren't half bad for a tattooed glam/punk act. They did a cover to Alice's "Go To Hell" and the bass player used a stock Epi T-Bird cleverly disguised as a Gibson. Didn't fool me, though.

 True. And she actually liked the new album when she heard it in my car, Eric Martin's singing appealed to her and she didn't mind the twiddly-twiddly parts too much.

In Mr.Big's case, its twiddly-twiddly and woodily-woodily.
