Fortunately no one killed or seriously injured.

Given the WWII aircraft discussions here, when I heard this on the news, I expected it to already be posted here.

I just heard about it today, a unfortunate loss. The old adage is true any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

The good thing is that everybody walked away from the crash.
Really a sad thing to lose a '17 tho  :-\

I see one or two a year out here.......What a plane! I can only imagine what it must have been like to see several hundred fly over at one time!

this site is about 25 miles east of me and i pass it once a month everytime i go to clinic for bloodwork. all i can think of is glory passed in the terms of planes that were there.

I meant to post it but kept getting sidetracked. I think I read somewhere that only 10 B-17s are still flying but I thought a couple of others were being restored to fly. Sucks for the loss of the plane, no matter what.

There was a post on the WWII site I dip into yesterday... the only good thing was no fatalaties - early reporting was an engine fire but the pictures don't show much engine damage...

I saw that plane Saturday night as I was driving by the Aurora Airport. The airport is home to a restored B-25 but I knew right away this was no B-25. I actually thought about turning around and pulling in to take some pictures, but it was dark and I was running late. Now of course, I really wish I'd have stopped.

I am sorry for the loss of such a precious piece of history, but I'm glad there were no fatalities.  In the final analysis, planes are things - people are more important.
