Everybody is entitled to an incoherent statement some of the time. I don't think that he intends to returns royalties he received from The Bangles, Sinead O. and Tom J. versions of hs songs. The great Tom J., always a profound analyst of things, once replied incredulously to a question regarding "Kiss, that song written by Prince, the singer": "Prince a singer? He's not. Certainly a great musician and songwriter, but I don't think even he himself considers himself to be a singer. I'm a singer."

I like Prince (and his Little Richard vocals) but Sinead turned one of his songs into a heartwrenching Über-ballad whereas his version sounded more twee than emotional.

He needs the royalties from those covers. He just had to rescue one of his properties from foreclosure and has had lots of other delinquencies.

He's still a jerk.

The number of people you like does seem to diminish over the years, Dave. Is that an age thing?

Let's settle for "eccentric", ok?

He never had an oxygen mask, something with kids or a primate called bubbles though. For the record. And he can play a searing lead guitar.

No it hasn't. If anything, I've learned to mostly ignore music and performers I don't like. They makes someone happy.

Prince is a talented instrumentalist. I've never liked his songs. Does anyone outside Prince's inner circle like him as a person?

I just feel he really disrespected his fans when he canceled the concert in Ireland on a whim.  He never even bothered to give a reason and it seems he never really had one.  Ireland doesn't get the big acts on a consistent basis the way much of mainland Europe does.  A concert like that means something to them.  In my opinion, his behavior in this matter was inexcusable.

It's probably fair to say that people outside his inner circle don't hate him as much as those within do!

He's also no actor as evidenced by his role in Purple Rain. (the movie)  It is, however,  worth seeing the movie for the concert sequences and Appolonia's tits.  :)

I also saw him in January 1985 here in Austin during that tour.  An amazing show and Sheila E. (opening act) was smoking hot!  I could have sworn that Sheila E's bass player used to star in some TV detective show.  Does anyone know this for sure?  He looked familiar.  Played a Fiesta Red Fender Precision '62 Reissue during the show.

In my best Beavis & Butthead voice: "Huhuh, he said tits, man, cool, t-i-t-s!!!"

Psycho Bass Guy

The best way I've ever heard Prince described was in the movie, "An Evening with Kevin Smith." Smith is the director of Clerks, Mallrats, and lots of other potty-mouthed Gen-X films and the movie is material culled from his first tour of college film students doing a standup/lecture and Q&A. Even if you don't like Smith or his movies, his story about Prince hiring him to direct a documentary about himself is well worth a viewing. His retelling of his time in the world of 'the purple one' is great.

I see it's on YT in several parts, I'm in the middle of watching it now.  :)
