Is there any manufacture who offers a 1970's winding?  Are the 60's and 70's pickups pretty much the same thing?  I've got an early 70's Jazz bass and need to find some good replacement pickups for the Dimarzio's that are in place.  I'm leaning towards Duncans but any suggestions are welcome.

I'll be danged if I can hear any difference.  As far as I can tell a Fender factory pup will either sound good or bad, but era seems to play little in that, and maybe the bass strings are a thing that doesn't drive a pickup like a guitar string.  There really is less nuance to pulling or picking a bass string.  I say that being very aware that DiMarzios do sound a lot different, and other pups - like Duncan 1/4 lb stuff  - can be designed to be unique.  I don't like DiMarzios and that grindy overtone.  I have personally used and loved Bill Lawrence vintage style Jazz pups, but I think you can more easily find a Fender 62 RI Jazz pup or fancy-pants Abigail Ybarra stuff that will all sound good and similar.

I do know that the early 80s 62 RI Jazz bass used the exact same pick up as the American Standard Jazz bass, just with a different cover and cloth leads.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

+1 to Fralins.
I had the same situation: DiMarzio installed into my 1974 precision. And I wanted the bass to sound like my friend's all-stock 1976. I went for fralins and frankly I'm more than pleased with the results.

i have used fender reiisue  pups and there are pretty close.  Curtis Novak can probably build and exact copy.  +1 on Fralins

Fralin.   Just tell them what year and it will be right.

oh, this again. it is ok to spell the word FENDER when discussing such! you won't break out in plague boils. it may even inspire you to put down your expensive, broken toys and pick up a more manly bass. it could do nothing but make you a better player.

And it's also okay to spell out GUITAR.

Et tu Brutus!? :)

I love my P and this would truly be my "if you could only have one bass in the entire world" bass - though I do have a thing for mahogany.

Say, have you migrated north yet?
