In praise of SD

I've had several custom pups done at Seymour Duncan, mostly the 60's TB reproductions. I had 2 of those covers with them for months now and I finally called MJ at the custom shop to ask what happened. They were essentially finished and they forgot to send them back to me! Yikes! Since it's been months, she was very apologetic and she's getting them right out to me with a free custom 51 SCPB pup to make up for their error.

Now that's great customer service!!!

BTW, these new chromies will land in this carcass as soon as they arrive then off to rehearsal. This bass will depart a little from contemporary TBs. It has 2 volume controls and one 3-way switch. Don't need no stinking tone control!

That was great of them to send you the 51, but not as important as that they were apologetic. That doesn't happen often enough.

Yeah, they are a good bunch over there. No excuses, just honest and regretful for their oversight. You can't get any better than that!

Nice to hear in this day in age, I must send my covers out for TB pups. I was sooooooooooooooo jealous when you scored that carcase.

normally, I'm a pain in the butt when waiting for stuff, but I've been so busy, I sort of forgot about it! Glad I remembered before they actually ended up lost somewhere in the factory!

I like the two volume + toggle idea. I don't use tone on my SG RI, but I switch pick ups often. A toggle switch is the only thing I miss and I even thought of drilling an extra hole in it. But this 'changing the tone pot to a switch'-idea crossed my mind too and I'm curious how it works out. In this way the SG RI can be made original again, if I want that.

Nope, the Martin fret board is going onto a neck for either the Guild M-85 or the Vox HB project. I haven't decided which is which yet. Was that you that dropped me a note on eBay? Man, I forgot to write back to you! I apologize for that. I've got too many irons in the fire these days.

Did I tell you about the old Porsche I'm supposed be working on for my son........ $:-\$

Hey, thanks Chris. Yeah, I literally never use the tone pot on my basses. That's what the amp EQ is for IMHO. I won't miss it a bit on the TB.

This afternoon I read an old issue of British Guitar & Bas Magazine. It has an interview with Madonna's guitar player (and teacher) who also plays bass at that tour. He has like 20 guitars and basses on stage, most of them Gibsons. He had two SG reissue basses and a white one having two controls and a toggle! The other one's control section wasn't visible.

yeah, that was me. i decided to go with the ebony fretboard from Randy so i'm kinda glad i got outbid. i would just have cut off the first and last frets so i could have a 32 inch scale anyways. actually it works out to 32.092 inch.

glad i got to see the restoration of the 60's TB in your other thread. NICE!!!

Sorry about that! You never know who's bidding these days! Actually, it'll probably end up a 30" scale when I'm done with it! So, how many frets will your 32" scale have?

Thanks for the comments, I'm very happy with the 60 NR outcome. It sounds incredible with my Mesa amp and cabs.
