It first seemed another twitter-hoax, but now the Thin Lizzy website has a message about the passing of Gary Moore and BBC Ireland confirms his dead.

RIP.

Really sad news, not what I was wanting to hear at all on a Sunday morning.

Yeah, I just heard it myself and did a search....

Mr Moore, 58, was, originally from Belfast, and was a former member of the legendary Irish group Thin Lizzy.

Adam Parsons, who manages Thin Lizzy, told the BBC that Mr Moore had died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mr Moore was originally drafted into Thin Lizzy by its singer Phil Lynott. He later gained acclaim for his solo work and was a former member of the Irish group Skid Row.

I was living in England when Run For Cover was released. The two songs Moore and Lynott did on the album (Military Man and Out in the Fields) were both great in my book and I loved seeing the two of them together. It made it that much worse when Phil died after seeming to have been given a new lease on life. That being said, that album made me a fan for life of Gary and Phil. R.I.P.

What can i say, this makes me sad, i never liked his hard n heavy stuff, but loved (and still do) the blues albums after 1990.

R.I.P. Gary, you were one hell of a shredder. Cheers to you mate.

Major bummer............. I had read somewhere, not too long ago that he had to sell Peter Greens Les Paul to pay medical bills. He must have been dealing with some major health issues to make a choice like that. RIP Mr Moore...  :toast:
There's no such thing as gravity, the earth just sucks!!

I recall first hearing him on Lizzy's Black Rose LP.  I always liked the cover version he did of this one in the early 80's.  R.I.P.

I did not know that...Do you think this is Greens Les Paul in this pic?

Hornisse

The Peter Green Les Paul had the famous reversed position neck pickup.  Here is a photo of the guitar.
