Hey guys,
I know I'm a newbie around here but I figured this would be the best way to introduce myself.

I'm 16 years old and I've been playing for five years- and in those short 5 years I've always wanted to do this!
I've tried to build a bass before and just gave up... Then I tried this:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=704019&highlight=

Here it is now:

Anyways so I found this forum through Carlo (Catoldo Basses- Dadagoboi)
And I was utterly stunned by Carlo's Fenderbirds!

I've been drooling over his work and it inspired me to do my own creation.
The Fenderbird represents the idea of taking an already original idea and makin it completely your own.
I took that and here is my prototype Offenderbird so far (clever name, eh? :mistergreen:

I'm still refinig the template shape- what do you guys think?
I'm using the guts from my Bronco for my prototype in a Pine body.
For my real one I'm gonna try a method ive been working on for chambering.

The criteria for my final offenderbird(s) will be:
Short scale
Rosewood neck w blocks and binding
Seafoam green
Gretch Fillertron pickups wired VVT
Superlight weight!!!

And if I were to do a fretless version( I plan on it)
It will be the same as above only Shell Pink.

Ok a LOT of talking! Sorry about that!
Now off to work! Wish me luck

HOW I WONDER WHAT YOU'RE AT

I think you just lowered the median age around here by quite a few years.  Welcome!

I'm digging this big time, I think KNOW there's a lot of interest in a shortscale 'bird out there.

The template is looking good.  Hang it on that pink wall and give it a glance every once in a while.  The first thing you notice on the shape is usually the thing that needs work.  My walls at your age were mandarin orange which looking back was pretty close to Fiesta Red.

Great work on that Pbass!

Welcome and we're glad one of our ranks inspired you!  I agree with Carlo, a short scale bird is a great idea and I have one on the drawing board as one of my future projects.  Keep the pictures coming.
I'm fixin' a hole where the rain gets in..........cuz I'm built for a kilt!

Welcome to the Outpost, Kevin! That's a great looking project. It'll be fun to see how it progresses.

Highlander

Good luck with the project...

(good grief - was the hairstyle a dare...?  :o)

Ageist statement... I remember when there was more hair on my head than round my face... ;D
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Basshappi

Welcome aboard!
The P-bass turned out great, looking forward to the results of the "Offenderbird"! :D
Nothing is what it seems but everthing is exactly what it is.

Welcome aboard! I like that you spend a total of $87 on that Surf Precision! Congrats, it turned out well.
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?
Clocks.

Kevin_bluebass

Wow thanks for the Warm welcome guys!
I think a shortie TBird will adress the fret access and balance/ stretch issue associated with the coolest design ever!

I think I'm done the body shape: I did some contouring so it's less boxy
(it's the one on the left- just a before/after shot)

Still not sure for the PG. I want to go for the JAE / Catoldo style.

Also, as far as logos go I'm stuck.
What do you guys think?

Thanks again!

Denis

I like the top one because it reminds me of the old Offenhauser logo!

Kick ass!!!! Now you're Hooked!!!!! Welcome and Congrats!!!

Lightyear

Welcome aboard.  Great project!  And I will say it takes one manly 16 year old to post a pic with pink wall in background - you sir, rock!

And, don't worry about Ken's hair comment - he's just trying to remember what hair was like  ;) :P

Kevin_bluebass

Lol once again thanks guys!
This has inspired me to work quickly:

Got the neck pocket routed and decided on a pickguard:

PG kinda looks melody maker bass ish... I like it!

Got the control cavity routed and decided on pup placement (I think)

The route's so big because I want to cut as much weight as possible.

PS the pink room was my sisters old room until I took it for my jam room...
Now I took over my basement and its my man cave! LOL
...I should post pics to make you guys jealous xD

Anyways this is my first time doing anything like this so any pointers would be much appreciated! :)
