It looks pretty nice.  But maple neck+ash body will mean a heavy, fenderish sounding bass.  The bass is already at 9 lbs. so it'll probably be 10 pounder - still not a bad weight but not light.

Don't know him, looks good.

Which one of you is going to test his reserve?

Pilgrim

That would be a good candidate for the Ampeg scroll bass body treatment to take some wood and weight off the body - and end up with a unique bass that has a T-bird outline but Ampeg cutouts.

Great idea Pilgrim!

So, Carlo, when are you going to bid? ;D ;)

Remember that custom made frost blue NR clone?

Interesting to note that this project bass is within 50 miles of where that one was listed.  Big assumption, but I was wondering if they might be of the same origins...

This is going to go for more than I'd be willing to pay.  I've got too much stuff going on to pursue it but it would be nice if one of us got it and finished it.

Chromium could be on to something.

I've bought some odds and ends form him before, I think.  Looks nice.  I've got too many irons in the fire to even think about it!

There is one big difference and that is the area where the neck joins the body. The one currently on ebay has an extension very reminiscent of the neck joint on Warmoth Tbird bodies, while the completed one looks true to the Gibson original. Not saying that it may have been an earlier attempt by the same person. (Noting also that the completed version has no mention of weight or wood but why would you go to the trouble and not use mahogany?)

Oh and BTW, I am close enough to drive up there to pick it up. If it were mahogany I would really be tempted.

Ask BaCH.  Their basses are definitely NOT the same species of mahogany, Swietenia macrophylla, as 60s and '70s Thunderbirds.  Anyone who has a passing acquaintance with the real stuff can tell at a glance.  Sorry to get so picky.

This guy says his is ash, from the look and weight Northern Ash.

The neck is maple, so it's only a half-ashed bass.

Highlander

I'm ash shocked as the next man by that comment...

Well, you could kiss my ash if you like, but I'm still not a fan!   ;D  Sorry I'm not as good at these as some of you blokes!   :P
