thanks ever so much Henry J, maybe you could produce a bass version of it with black hardware for me?

Ever try and replace a board in a RD ?

I like my RD just as she is, Scott - barely recognizeable from the original... ;D

What a joke. Pathetic. They need to open their eyes and reissue the 60's reverse and non reverse thunderbirds as well as the EB-1 and make some 8 string basses as well.

If they did all that, we'd have to get the smelling salts out to revive you.  ;)

At least that prediction of a $300-500 Chinese Gibson turned out to be false. Let's hope they don't devalue the brand.

That would be very difficult

It escapes me what's so revolutionary about it, I saw/heard the demonstration vid. It's versatile alright, but for the myriad of sounds it creates it still can't emulate the difference between a Strat plugged in, a riff being played, then being unplugged and a Les Paul being plugged in a few seconds later to play the same riff. At least in the demonstration vid, which has the slightly plump guy play capably, you can hear that the source of all these varied processed sounds is one and the same piece of wood.

So they still can't make a mahogany neck with a shorter scale sound like a maple neck with a longer one - how reassuring.

Wake me again  :bored: when they have the electronics ready to make a Strat not only sound, but feel and look like a Les Paul and when maple can be turned into mahogany at the flick of a switch. I ain't impressed until then.

PS: Ash body and maple neck?  :o :o :o How true to Gibson tradition.  And if you really want to present a state of the art guitar to the market that encompasses all modern developments, how can it do without a Buzz Feiten nut and tuning system?

I mean, that robot tuning system is one thing - being able to instantly dial in alternate tunings could be useful in performance (or just facilitate some guitarists intrinsic need to audibly re-tune between EVERY SONG  :)), but I think that pulling the sound shaping stuff on-board guarantees a short, unsuccessful life for this thing.  The old Electra Outlaw MPCs saw a little action, but those weren't 5K either.  Players with that kinda dough can afford to do it right, buy a quality guitar and pick and choose the right outboard stuff that suits them.

Now if this was a $500 guitar, it might appeal to beginners who weren't at the point where they even know what effects they need - in that case, it might be tempting to have this vast array of sounds on-board.  I wonder if this is just the R&D effort towards that end, or if they are trying to court investors who want to see Gibson playing in that space?   ???   Otherwise, I don't get it.  I'm just not seeing where something like would fit in the market.  Guitarists drop all kinds of money on vintage or boutique effects, overpriced caps, etc... in the pursuit of tone.  That market is companies like Moog and Malekko's (synth company in disguise) bread-and-butter.  I think Gibson would be better served by catering to those needs/desires (under a different brand).

...and so in conclusion:  meh.  That's my guy-on-the-internet opinion, and I'm stickin' to it!

"If you like a guitar like that, chances are you are already a keyboard player." Very nice said of Uwe! I applaud it.  ;D

well said , now back to  :bored:

Okay, okay, devalue it further;D

Still, whatever Henry has done so far, he isn't marketing his Chinese guitars under the Gibson brand name. Doing that might make some customers think twice about paying big bucks for their next Les Paul Hysterical Historic Reissue.

It's a prototype.  Hannah Montana stuff is usually purple.  The Wizards of Waverly Place model might be pink.  No word on The Suite Life of Zach and Cody yet.

The Billy Ray Cyrus model will be sunburst.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

Whether it sells or not -- and I doubt it will -- the big announcement looks like a PR disaster for Gibson. The reaction on guitar forums is 100% negative, with boatloads of ridicule.
