I loved his comment on the second last page that he's been playing and setting up basses for 20 years, but had never encountered a truss rod that adjusts at the body end of the neck - I guess he's done a great job of avoiding Fender basses for 20 years.  Seriously?

Talkbass is littered with f***ing tools. I get so pissed at all the finger pointing and "correcting" some of these douche's so self righteously employ when in reality they don't know squat.  Carlo doesn't need those asshole's endorsment to validify himself, their ignorance and arrogance nulls any credibility they could have had.

I have a Cataldo JAEBird and it kicks ass! I can't wait until the finish starts coming off ; }

I guess that means he thinks Carlo is responsible for the decisions of Leo Fender, Peter Cook and Allparts.  :-\

By a happy coincidence Tom in Dorset UK (LPB/maple/TBR '66 pups) and Chad in Chicago (Ebony, B&B maple, MAX pups) both received their basses yesterday and they're happy...or they lie very well.

I try to take the TBers with a grain of salt.  They're young and dumb.  The less they know the better, it leaves the good stuff for those who appreciate it.

The only comment on the thread that really bothered me was from a guy in St. Augustine (about 60 miles from here) who made the comment, "I don't like Cataldo as a last name."  It's actually my first name but I'm still considering tracking him down and beating his ass.  Preferably with a '51 Precision adjustment at the heel baseball bat.

that black bass is really sweet.  Neck finishes it off very nicely.   Max pups sound interesting also.

Here's a clip of the 66 Thunderbuckers in my JAEbird - this is a VERY ROUGH incomplete mix of an upcoming song we're working on - the bass sounds great though.  JAEbird > Cave Passive Pedals TVTR clean boost > Markbass TTE500 > DI out > Protools.  Both pickups on full, tone control on around 1/4 turn.  TTE500 EQ flat.  No compression or post production at all.

IS Cave still making his passives?

Absolutely - they have some very cool models in the range now.  They make a tiny little passive overdrive, a 3 channel passive boost/overdrive/tube emulator, and have just released a passive compressor.
