That pickup looks like a Turner design.  He was at Gibson in the mid 80's as well and was supposed to be designing a bass for Gibson.  Supposedly the Elecroline was going to be a Gibson bass but then he left.

Every time I see the title of this thread it reminds me of my favorite song by The Supremes!

Timely post.  Here's a link to my BandMix page.  There's a live version of that song with me using the Embassy.

nice mix on those songs Gary

i think i wrote a poem that goes well with that bass story Uwe (it was either that or a good flashback): Actually I wrote it modeled on "jabberwock" and i wrote it the day i buried my sister as i was really blue. i purposely left out a part about the Bandersnatch as 1) a tribute to Carroll and 2) i just didn't have it in me at the time. it was an experiment in meter and word meaning through word sounds and it brought me some joy as i hope it brings to the group in here. the name i snatched and modified from the old Nordic tale "Beowolf".

GRENDERLOR

Poem by CLARO

Was twimsey in the fibling droth, and brumical ligh was the mure.
All flithy flies the moonsey moth, the brightag rabes galaed flasure.

The Grenderlor arose a glee with claws and teeth all snarly floom.
"Beware!" said he and climbed the tree, a wince he bounded to the room.

“Where is that scisel blade he sought?” rethinking he had laid it back.
Grenderlor must again be fought, so once amore he needs be smack.

With eyes aflame once more galore and migley gravens all bajite!
Grend notes the knight retake the floor, and so he frumps into the fight.

The blade struck three, "See he!" said me “Oh dassing brave so turst and sure!”
Thou had slain the snarvling slee, so we sing with aflust and dure.

All twimsey was the fibling droth, brumising ligh requained the mure.
So flithy flew the moonsey moth, the brightag rabes conjayed flasure

Just got done recording the tracks for our CD.  Playing the Embassy was like sleeping with an old girlfriend that you always wondered why you broke up with in the first place...

Question to ask would be what caused the break-up in the first place...?

At the time, the ergonomics of playing it were killing me, and it sat in my closet for almost a year.  We were also having some money issues, and it was the right thing to do.  I didn't just sell it - I found a home for it.  Mark sold it back to me for a lot of the same reasons.  It's a bass that needs to be played and heard.  BTW - I got the new pickguard from Ebay.  Not happy.  It's really thin, and it doesn't seem to fit right.  I think I'm going to get the Dremel out and try to clean up the edges of the rough one that's been on there for about 15+ years.  I do have a nice set of white chicken knobs for it, though!

Gary, the Embassy sounds great on that track. Cool tune too. Thanks for posting it.

There is a guy on the Agile guitar forum (goes by the name "Twang") that does really nice custom guards at a reasonable price. You will probably have to register before viewing the thread.
