Twisted Sister were never The New York Dolls, not even Kiss, but I always dug Dee Snider as a frontman and non-stupid advocate of hard rock. When Tipper G. held her infamous hearing, it was Snider who took the effort to actually discuss things sensibly with her (a futile effort, I know) while the also present Frank Zappa aped the Southern drawl of some Senators' wives in biting sarcasm which did not go down well.

Though you might not guess it from his Twisted Sister work, Snider can sing too, bit Hagar'ish actually:

i remember seeing Dee and sister a few times in the mid late 70's when they were doing stones/Bowie covers and stuff like that in a club called Speaks out on long island.  Their outfits were something special with very nice makeup applied.... their whole shtick was they would come out and chant Disco Su@ks for 5 minutes,  play a song or 2 , slip off stage and return with some really cheapo japanese guitars,  destroy a couple, chant some more then get there original guitars back on and play some more covers.  They were entertaining but not very impressive musicians.  But he could get the crowd going....He clearly was the whole show.   I remember hearing the first album and being somewhat surprised.....

Believe it or not, while walking down Mission Beach yesterday I saw what looked like a mid-twenties at most guy with a Twisted Sister logo tattooed on his chest!! I can't believe that there is anyone willing to do that for TS!! I mean, how does this guy even really know about the band and how is he that dedicated to them?? I think I might have been less shocked if it had been a Bay City Rollers tat!!

They do have a cult following even today. My son (16) likes them (he has a Best of from them), but at the same time laughs about Manowar. Which is probably a good thing.
