Merle Hazard! In real life he's an investment advisor named Jon Shayne.

Here's one from before the crisis:

There is no depth of parody to which faux country artists will not stoop.

I could have gone through life perfectly happy without ever hearing the stage name "Merle Hazard".   :P  :P  :P

Highlander

There must be more unlikely stage names than that...  ;)

There were (are?) two seventies recording artists called Wayne Kerr and Wayne King... might not mean much over the pond, but if they were real names their parents had a lot to answer for... anyone over in the good ol' USofA understand the expression, "He's a right merchant..." ;D

My all time favourite (real) name was a restaurant manager called Rita Sparrow... her first husband's name was Starling (whom she divorced) and she was about to move to the West Country with a new husband and become Rita Hawk (Sparrow to Starling to Hawk - you could not make it up...)
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

While I'm not a CW fan I will admit that the genre has the best and wittiest lyrics going today ;D

Y'know, I agree. I'm not a country fan, but they do have some good stuff going on. My wife's a country listener and I often get a dose while riding with her. Of course Nashville has its own formula, different from and just as regrettable as the formula pap that comes out of pop rock, but it does result in a lot of listenable stuff.

I used to share a house with a guitarist called James Kerr. His brothers name was Wayne.   Just sayin' ......

The story is that he chose the name in tribute to Merle Haggard. But I thought "moral hazard" right away.

Anyway, country music is just the vehicle for his financial humor. Gotta hand it to the guy, it's allowed him to meet famous economists, get interviewed by Jim Lehrer, etc. Not bad for a small-time investment advisor.
