Thunderbird dimensions for comparison please...
« on: June 11, 2010, 12:51:06 PM »
My Peter Cook was obviously influenced by the original article, but how closely... I'm satisfied that her neck is based on a "D" profile Precision so that is sorted, but what about the rest...?

The cut-away is much deeper, obviously, but would one or more of you guys and gals be kind enough to get the tape-measure out and supply some dimensions for the following points... a 60's and a '76 if possible...

1 - fin to horn
2 - fin to other lower edge
3 - widest point between the points
4 - narrowest point on the waist
5 - lower left to top right
6 - centre of bridge pin to nut

Mine for comparison to the originals...

1 - fin to horn - 23-7/16" or 595mm
2 - fin to other lower edge - 14-7/16" or 367mm
3 - widest point between the points - 13" or 330mm (this is actually a diffult one to call - I settled for the "flat" at the top edge...)
4 - narrowest point on the waist - 8-9/16" or 218mm
5 - lower left to top right - 16-1/4" or 412mm
6 - centre of bridge pin to nut 34-1/8" or 867mm (iirc JAE requested that the bridge be placed 1/4 forward of the 60's 'birds he had for intonation reasons on the Fenderbirds)

Any other dimension differences people...? I know our Frauelein has a '76, as do a few others...

Forgot two other dimensions...

7 - centre thickness - 1-1/2 or 38mm
8 - fin thickness - 1-1/4" or 32mm

What's the distance from the 12th fret to the center line of each pup on a IV?  Or CL of the single pup on a II.

George has a great image of a IV with all of the measurements overlayed - it's probably in a thread somewhere here.  George if you're out there can you post it again?

Here's one with more dimensions. You can see I've never been a draftsman (or draughtsman for Kenny  ;D), but I hope the details work for anyone who needs them. I'll go downstairs and get measurements for my '76 this afternoon.

Well there ya go. I would have needed to find a Metric tape measure anyway. Otherwise, my Imperial measurements would have brought down the wrath of Uwe onto this thread!

I maintained diplomacy by posting both...

Daniel... that's a significantly shorter neck...?

The significant differences are she's taller (fin to horn), has a slimmer "waist", and narrower at the top, and all three have differing "ass" sizes...

Humm, sorry, I misread my notes. 871mm (~34 1/3") it is. Now edited in previos post. I'm appearently not supposed to do such things late nights.

Make no mistake, I'm watching the imperial silliness of this thread very closely ... Mental notes of all involved have been made ...
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

Yeah, like it's not silly to count in increments of 10 ;D  Who came up with that idea ???
