When you have a jammed thumb it's much easier to play a thick-necked bass than a thin-necked bass.  :P
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?

I prefer thick and narrow necks to wide and flat ones. They look better too and add sound. I also play basses with other necks, but that's my preference.

Funny, I did mine last week and I noticed the same thing...it hurts less to play the G&L vice the Fury.
I'm still terrible, but I usually leave the wincing to everyone else in the house when I play.

Must be thumb-jam month in Raleigh...

Hockey...but I re-injured it this past weekend riding dirtbikes in Louisburg.
I hope your motorcycle-related activity was the offroad type.  Pavement injuries are scary.
