New Kays. What about 'm? I think they're nice!

On the site you can see two basses which are both P-copies. But in thios brochure you'll see two great new reissues!

They look interesting but I haven't seen them anywhere. Same with the Harmony vintage reissues.

I haven't seen the Harmonies at all. Website?

The Kays were at the Frankfurter Musikmesse and they looked very wel made! Nice basses. Haven't played one though.

I'd love to have one of those Kay RI basses.  Very cool looking!  An MSRP of $999 is reasonable too which means the street price will be under $700 in most cases.
I'm fixin' a hole where the rain gets in..........cuz I'm built for a kilt!

That's quite good.

BTW: I opened a new topic about Harmony.

I saw one of the originals at Rudy's Music Shop in NYC, and it looked awesome. I didn't play it at the time, which I kind of regret now (I was still learning and didn't feel comfortable fiddling around in some strange music store). But I guess it wouldn't have really mattered since I couldn't have make much of any opinion...
Anyway, I think the RI's look pretty cool. Don't know how I feel about all the funky tortoise shell pickguards; but I guess they're ok. =) And they're seemingly affordable.

When I was a kid back int eh 60's, I liked the Fenders and T-Birds, but didn't like any of the Kay, Harmony or other hollow bodies.  Now, I love the look, feel and sound.  Even the old tort guards are cool looking and I hated them back in the day.

I'm gonna be on the lookout for those Kay basses.  I already own a vintage Harmony H-22, but I love one of these RI Kay basses.

Keep us posted. And check my MySpace for a nice pic from the Messe.

The Dutch Kay agent just called me. They've got three new Kays in: Black, cherry and natural. Tomorrow I'l pick one up to write a review about for my little Dutch bass magazine. I'll keep you posted!

I never gave these things a second look back in the day. I always considered them to be at the bottom end of the evolution scale. Of course I never played one, but back in the 60s, if it didn't say Fender , Gibson or even Hofner , it was not "cool" enough for me and I dismissed  them as a piece of crap.
I felt the same about Danelectros . When I finally picked one up a decade or two ago , it absolutely floored me :o
Is there a chance I wasn't as cool or smart as I thought I was 40 years ago?? ???........Naw, that can't be it,  I was fuggin' cool 8)

I'll have to check out Kay and Harmony too.

There's a pic of young McCartney with an upside-down black Kay Jazz Special bass but I can't find it now.
