Hi there,

In the past I tried to find info about vintage Hagstrom basses, but that seems quite hard. A friend of a friend owns a 1976 Hagstrom Super Swede. He asked me what I know about the bass. Well: nothing. I only found some pics and it's a Les Paul kinda bass.

Anyone more about this bass? Pick ups, construction, wood types, what it's worth, et cetera? Thanks!

I only found this link:

Doesn't look like a Les Paul to me Chris...

I bet they sound very similar to my Guild M85II

Same pickups, same wood, same scale.

They reminded me of your Guild immediately. I believe they're mahogany, but I can't find anything about tone chambers, electronics. The pick ups look more like 'normal' guitar humbuckers, instead of the large Hagstrom/Darkstar or Guild pick ups.

This is a 1980-81 Super Swede Hag Bass. Not many of them were made, only 356.

Not 100% sure but I believe they were DiMarizio's. Here's another pic of one, an extremely rare left handed version.

This was the last model produced by Hagstrom before closing their doors in 1983. It's also one of only two models they produced that were long scale basses. The other was the Scanbass also known as the Jazzbass.

Last summer I bought an Super swede bass . It was for a friend of mine in Denmark who collects Hagstrom guitars. Very nice (thin, but wide) neck trough, J style bass, as opposed to the swede bass, which is indeed more lp style.

I found this on youtube, the guy is playing a super swede bass;

Nice job on Dancing Queen.  My old band played that and it is difficult line to execute properly.  Rutger was very funky in Abba.  One of my favorite players.
