Epi Allen Woody
« on: March 10, 2010, 05:11:25 AM »
Just thought I'd post a pic of my Woody bass at a recent gig in the Barossa  Valley on a hot sunday afternoon. I love this thing, it cost bugger all but feels and sounds so good. It doesn't have the finish of a Gretsh Thunder Jet (or the price tag either) but it still sounds as good as my main recording basses albeit with its own distinct tone.

Cool, and it matches the drum kit in colour!

It's a lot of bass for little money and it has a totally individual look, Epi keeps hanging on to it though sales can't really be relevant given how you hardly see them.

Do I see that correctly, playing an F octave and you are not using your pinkie?  :o :o

To me it looks like he just pulled off the F or perhaps Bb. Although that doesn't seem out of the ordinary, I can stretch my fingers to reach long gaps on the fretboard and I have small hands. Guess I got used to playing that Epiphone Thunderbird as a kid...

Ah, the beauty of short scale. :D

Love the look of those basses.

Just need to teach them to change fingers at 99...  ;D

I couldn't remember what song I was playing when the pic was taken but one of my students reliably informs me that it is the first position pattern of the CCR version of Good Golly Miss Molly. I'm playing F (E string) C (A string) D# (D string). In the pic I'm on the C about to play the D#.  Sorry Uwe no octave, just a 5th.

Apart from the fact that the sound of this bass suits the song I must admit to primarily using it for this tune because of the position and the fact that it is a short scale bass. ;)

Looking back at that pic I just had a thought... how tall are you...? I knew she's a short-scale, but still looks small...?

I saw one of these on eBay last week but the seller was in Melbourne and wanted pickup only.  Good thing, since I was quite tempted.  They're a great looking bass.
Cheers

That's my only gripe with the Woody, on a tall player (I'm 1.89 meters) it looks ridicliously small. I played my Longhorn at the last rehearsal and the band burst out laughing though they liked the sound.

The trick is to hang it (much) lower.
It looks better that way  8)

I'm 1.82m. I wear my other basses lower but this one just wants to be there for some reason.
