Looks like someone at the RD factory wanted to put together a curly Rd.

Has to be worth more down the road than plain jane ones

Yep, it has a tigerstripe maple neck and the body is quilted maple I think?

Gibson did some strange things in those days.  I remember seeing an all black Les Paul Custom from 1980 or 81 and the paint had started to wear of the back of the neck.  To my surprise it was 3 pieces of very curly maple along with 2 darker strips of wood between the maple laminates.  And this was just a regular LP Custom.

Someone cared who put this together.

2 bridge saddles missing, according to the revised description.  Hard to find?

There is a seller on Ebay that sells sets of the chrome bridge saddles for like $25. Not originals, but they would work.

Might lighten it up a few ounces at least!  ;)

I once owned a 1966 EBO that had an unusual cats eye? (curly) mahogany. A friend of mine has a 1967 EBO with a similar wood grain. This seems like it was concidered undesireable, since it was only on the cheapest instruments with the SG body style.
