What if Journey and Metallica....

Be sure to read the premise at the beginning.  :)

I saw this last week on another site I frequent and most of the reactions were "?". There are more mashups on Youtube, though this is probably the best one I've seen/heard. I have to admit part of the appeal for me was how unexpected it was (just when you think every angle has been exploited...) and after that surprise, not expecting them to pull it off so well (which I think they do, whether the result is attractive to the listener or not).

I guess old rockers have to be more creative than ever these days.

Ah, finally Metallica with melody and Journey with some balls. About time too.

I completely despise both of those bands....but that was very, very cool.
Thanks for sharing that.

I just noticed: Steve Perry sang one hell of a lot better than Herr Hetfield ever will (though Hetfield has improved over the decades).

Have I ever confessed that I'm a lovin', touchin', squeezin' that corny "lead guitarist plays chorus melody"-bit at the end of DSB?  :gay: :gay: :gay: Oüch.  :-[

Be glad you haven't had to hear classic rock radio play that song through the ground, past hell, and into American Idol territory.  To me the video is just a catchy Journey cover with good guitar tones and a nicer riff hook. There was way too much "irony" on the faces of those guys for me to buy into that song. If you're going to do smaltz-pop-metal, you damn well better believe in it.

I've said it before: Among all those Totos, Styxes, REOs and Foreigners I like Journey best. Sure, Perry's vocals could be twee, but they could also soar and command a tune. And I always found their West Coast groove set them apart from East Coast and Brit-influenced AOR. Plus Neal Schon had a truly individual, jazzy style.

Steve Smith and Aynsley Dunbar certainly added a different feel than most of the bands from the AOR genre. And as schmaltzy as some Journey could come across, they were a seriously good bunch of musicians for most of their original run, so the live show always rocked (that I saw and heard).

Steve Smith ran an interesting sideline band called Vital Information - quite jazzy - quite enjoyable...

If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

I LOVE Danzig!!! I saw the Shakira parody a few years ago when it first came out, but never thought to post it here. The best part is that the guitar mashups are actually real Misfits songs.
