Ripper II pickups

I was just on Gibson's site and read that the pickups on the Ripper II are wound by Seymour Duncan especially for this bass. I also noticed that they mount via 2 screws going through the pup itself (like the early Rippers) and not with 3 screws like the later Rippers. I wonder if a) these are obtainable through Seymour Duncan, b) if they are more powerful than the originals and c) if that 2-hole pattern is the same as the earlier pups and would mount in an original Ripper.

Many thanks! I looked on the SD site but didn't see them. They are pricey, aren't they...

And I still haven't got my Ripper II which I ordered earlier this year. I just hope this is not gonna be the Continental V affair once over given Gibson's current financial predicaments.

Earlier this year? Jeez, it's the END of the year!

I waited seven months for the SG Reissue when in 2005 when they were available for orders. The Les Paul Double Cut wait was eleven months so a smaller production run with probably less pre orders will take even more time. Hopefully it's not as bad as with the Continental V which never happened like Uwe wrote.

What was the Continental V, other than an apparent disappointment?

Never actually made it into production despite being shown on a number of websites.

Somewhere there's a prototype or two, and Uwe is no doubt still keeping watch.

I have no idea if even the prototypes escaped the bandsaw. I've seen two product ratings on sites such as Musician's Friend from people who claim to have one, one of them gloating and one of them damning. Both are so superficial, the guys who did it might have never even gotten near one.

I did touch one on a fair. It felt and looked like a Tobias and was probably built there too.

It had a big tire on its rear.

That's interesting. Looks just like a Tobias, doesn't it?

Yes, Gibson thought that since it was 2005 (or thereabouts), they should go "modern" with a design from the 1980s.

It's the same policy they use with their artist endorsements.  :-\
