Letterman played the hair pulling segment about 10 times tonight.

I can't get the slideshow that Al linked to load, but it ought to include Bednarik, Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay from hockey, Ty Cobb and Rocky Marciano.

You're absolutely right Dave - the only name I'm not sure about is Ted Lindsay.  All the others are there.

If it was here in Brazil, after the match, the referee would get suspended even before that girl.
If he'd be lucky enough to walk off the field alive...

Ted Lindsay played on the same line as Gordie Howe for years. Toughest little guy in hockey, ferocious like Ty Cobb. The story goes that his playing style led to the NHL making elbowing and kneeing into penalties. Don't know that it's true but it could be.

I saw Gordie Howe play in the WHA in the 70s. Even as an "old man" he could use those elbows like deadly weapons.

There's a SciFi short about a South American football crowd frying a referee to ash with the use of mirrored reflective boards all focused on him in the full heat of the day...

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...
