So, I found an EB-3 that needs the screw holes in the neck repaired, which is not a tough fix.

I've bought from this outfit before and their descriptions were extremely accurate.  With a bit of Ebay credit I had to use or lose, I paid $105 shipped.

The purpose of this project is to add a bridge pickup and create an EB-3 type bass.

SO - now the question is, WHAT pickup do I add as the bridge pickup?  If you recall, a while back I posted a pic of an EB-0 with a Fender single coil like that on the early 50's basses., and the more I looked at it, the better I liked it.  I could also go for a Gibby bridge pickup....OR....?

I'm sure some of you will have bright ideas about this.

Me I would go with the mini bucker.

I always wanted to use one of those in a bass, I've got a pair in my epi lp geetard and love the clear tones I can get.

I'll bet those would really add some full-range and high end to the sound.  They also don't appear to have pole pieces that would be very sensitive to pickup alignment.

Here's a cool project from a dude in The Netherlands who used an Epi EB-0 with Guild humbuckers

He turned it into a very cool little bass!

What about a Pitbull?  John used one is his EB project.  They're chrome, made of two 51 Pbass pickups, about the right size and, they're made right in Houston, TX

They have alnico2 blades, they add nice high end, that never goes into harsh territory.

edit: did I mention that they are cheap? :D

Also they've got 5 wires so you can split it or put its coils in parallel.

I love my Pitbull in mine. Its a great match both visually & sonically as its high output blends really well with the mudbucker. The bass surprisingly reall growls.  Also you get single coil mode, I used a push pull pot. I also added a Big D Varitone (which is not a true varitone - Jake - no choke)

Maybe a second Mud?

Edit: I just had a crazy idea... a second Mud at the bridge and a mini in between? Maybe with three on-off mini switches? The mini in the middle would also double as a thumb-rest...

A 50s type Fender single coil would be real nice but if you put a lot of treble to it you may experience some single coil noise, which bugs the hell out of me.
I used to hate single coils but I did a 180 on that a few years back when I bought my 51 P RI. I don't use a whole lot of treble these days and now I'm a big fan of single coils.

The basses shown by Basvarken and Barklessdog both REALLY appeal to me.

Hey Barklessdog, what kind of bridge is that?  It's sure not the original 3-point.  How hard was it to install?

A Pitbull is a nice pup.  I've used them before.

That looks like an original 2-point on John's.

Yes and no. It works fine, no taste. I was surprised on how well it works as far as tone & sustain. If the nneck were mounted at an angle everything would be a lot better.
