Didn't Hendrix -own / play a Flying V?

I thought I remember a reissue long ago?

So - Gibson makes a Strat - and puts a T-bird style reversed headstock on it.

My guess is that they better not try that with a Rick, or they'll be in court before the paint dries on the first guitar.

@ Barklessdog: See my post. Yes, Hendrix used a painted V which indeed was reissued. He used a lot of Gibsons and you can find pics of him with different Gibsons.

The reactions on that board are really nice. They all hate the idea!:)

His family are a greedy bunch, makes the Jacksons look like saints. Obviously, Gibson decided to do this as a quick flash-in-the-pan cash-in, but wisely did not want to contaminate any of their current brand namens with it. They Flying V signature was nice though, right down to the nail polish applications, I've seen and touched one in a shop, it looks the part.

Has Fender ever done a Hendrix Signature? Self-combustible with free cigarette lighter?

Fender has done seven Hendrix models over the years, some authorized by the estate, some not.

They all fell short in the one area that really matters to the Hendrix estate: generating revenue.

I had a classmate who went to high school with him in Seattle.  Said he needed to bathe a lot more often.

Okay, I see a brilliant product-line: Hendrix shower gell, Hendrix hair moisturizer, ...

Shame be upon you all... lets not be critical of JMH... the man is long gone and he is not at fault here...

No-one can disagree on what he did for the guitar, and music in general... him and a certain "Purple" riff...  8)

No use speculating what Jimi might or might not have done. If he chose to put out a line of guitars in the same way Flea is doing for basses, folks would probably say that's a good thing.

Unfortunately, coming from his estate with its history, it sure looks like moneygrubbing to me. And Gibson using it as a promotional opportunity just rubs me the wrong way.

No shock, no suprise , just disgust. This is how it works

Don't have issues with bringing out a budget guitar for today's kids that replicates some Hendrix characteristics and visuals and calling that "the Jimi Hendrix Signature Model". Acquainting kids with Hendrix is always good. And Hendrix was no gear elitist. But for Chrisssakes: Couldn't at least Squier have done it for a remnant of credibility? An EB-3 starter pack from Squier calling itself "the Jack Bruce Pack" would feel wrong to me too.

Kids today are already acquainted with Hendrix if they like rock. I don't think this deal has any altruistic motives, it's all about cashing in. Of course Gibson is in business to make money and there's nothing wrong with that; this is just unusually crass.
