Deep Purple Meets Russian Justice
« on: August 30, 2009, 07:50:41 AM »
This ruling is from June, I'm surprised I hadn't seen it earlier since you all know how I follow everything Deep Purple does.  ;)

Russian Court Says Band Needs License to Play Its Own Songs

A little aside: The blog entry originally called DP a US band. It was posted August 17, when I saw it August 28 I wrote the blog owner to point out that they're not, and he corrected. That means in 11 days not a single reader of this legal humor blog managed to notice that. That figures, we certainly don't know any attorneys who are DP fans, do we?  :)

Sounds less messy than their exploits in Indonesia back in the 70's at least.
Digresion our specialty!

Some perversion of IP law, but then most IP law is perverse and it is one of the fields of law that could really use a "global statute".

Don't think DP mind it too much, they pay into their own pockets and they tour Russia too often to really make this an issue.

Calling them an American band is forgiveable, after all Steve Morse, their lead guitarist, stems from the former colonies and DP were always larger and more appreciated in the US and Europe than on the Limey Isle which thought them uncool and preferred chasing fashions. Plus, in 1973 they were the top album seller in the US and Smoke on the Water was close to becoming the US National Anthem ("The Pilgrims came to Plymouth, on the Noth Atlantic shoreline ...").

I didn't believe I would ever see the day that Dave would start a post on DP where information content surpasses derision!   Dave, are you alright?!  ??? Do you feel you need to make amends or something? All is forgiven, if not forgotten ("stadium rock", "hopefully, I never have to hear the 12 minute version of Getting Tighter again ...").

We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...

I'm fine. And this must be the first DP thread I've ever started. Aside from saying that's just not the kind of music I like, when have I actually ever derided DP?

All IP law is perverse, and it's getting more so. Don't get me started.

Not derision? Well, let's call your lack of reverence then patronizing!

The problem with us Brit's is we fail to appreciate the good things in life... (blast, where did I put me chip buttie...?) ;)
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

I've forgiven Chas Chandler. Nobody's perfect.

(Dave ducks for cover  ;D)

We're unperturbed 'ere, mate!

Wonderful dress worn by - the other - Dave and Noddy on bass, deputizing for the otherwise busy Jim.
