I left work before they confirmed it.  By the time I got home, it was a fact.  Even the local indie pop station was playing his songs.  Someone called in and commented that no matter who you were, or what you thought of him, everyone has a favorite Michael Jackson song.  My wife was watching the news and said that when the ambulance was leaving his home, one of those "Homes of the Stars" tour buses had just pulled up in front of his place.

There used to be a very old clip of The Jackson 5 doing a blues song, where a very young Michael just wailed.

My twisted mind immediately wonders:
1) Does McCartney get his songs back now?
2) Was he on the toilet like Elvis?
3) Will the Elephant Man's descendants try to buy Jacko's remains?
Sorry, this stuff just pops into my head - It's not like I work real hard at it or anything...

There are many people who can't stand his music or any pop music.

I wouldn't be surprised if everything Jackson owned winds up in the hands of creditors and gets sold to the highest bidder.

Not a fan myself. I can hear musical brilliance in a few of his tunes but not a lot about him or the way his music was packaged appeals to me. Given the choice between seeing MJ and Kiss there was no decision to make. Now I guess we just have to put up with the media onslaught. I cant wait for the conspiricy theorists   Not to mention the fact that trying to find a radio station NOT playing his songs during the next week will be near on impossible.

I must admit to having a few of the same thoughts as you lowend1

In true Australian fashion the MJ jokes have already started. Not wanting to offend anyone here I will restrain myself .....for now.  :vader:

He was famous for being famous, above and beyond his music, so there will be massive coverage. As always, I just tune out anything I don't want to hear.

I feel sorry for his kids and his creditors (though the creditors will fare far better than his kids ever will). Not so much for him. I don't want to ruin the thread and don't need to elaborate. I'm feeling bad for the Fawcett, O'Neal and Majors families today. Jackson? Not so much... And Jeff Goldblum is safe because even though he fell, he could fly!

Nah, let's not. Morbid humor does have its place, but not here right now.

1) Does McCartney get his songs back now? I think Paul was able to buy them back awhile ago, one can only hope.

Jackson overshadowing Farrah's demise reminds me of the week James Brown's death made the news for an hour or so - the week Reagan died.  I just heard on the radio that the lead singer from The Seeds died, too.

I linked to a story about Sky Saxon of The Seeds earlier in this thread. That was also apparently unexpected.

Jackson's life and decline were so bizarre and went on for so long that it's bound to overshadow other celebrity news.

It's bad for his family and friends, but for him maybe better? He couldn't do the 50 London shows, an American promotor was preparing a court case because apparently Jacko signed something he would do shows in the US first and so...

But it's tragic.

I'm not a fan, but of course, like almost anyone, I can write down umphteen songs of him without thinking too hard.
