With that many bids cancelled, there must have been a shill.

If I have it correct in my book, B9171 would have been the 71st Rickenbacker bass made. B stood for bass, and 9 for 1959. The rest of the numbers back then stood for a numerical sequence that started with 100 in 1957. The numbering system changed in late 1960 and then several more times to the present day. It's kinda complicated, but more clearly (I hope) explained in my book. ;D

Thanks Paul. I should have looked at the book.

Something tells me that will be sitting for a long time at that price.

I remember when red/bt Rics (any model) were the slowest sellers.

And fretless players seldom choose Ric. Chris Brubeck, that's the only name I can think of. This bass is for collectors of odd Rics, and with two large paint chips it's not a great candidate.

For $1,500 maybe I'd be tempted, only because 80s chic makes a comeback.

I saw Chris play that bass years ago, and it sounded great....

I think so too. Was it with the Seymour Duncan humbucker or the Fender J bridge pickup?

He picks near the neck and uses Rotosound Tru Bass tapewounds, so evidently he wants an upright tone and not a Jaco-esque mid-ridden mwah.

Bass solo at 29:00. The drummer BTW is Dan Brubeck.

Another solo at 36:00

It's a very "pretty" and "musical" sounding electric bass.

Thanks for the clips.
