Note that the bridge pickup has been moved rearward about an inch on both of those.

Oh the humanity!  :o

That s8 would be fun to "nuke and pave" and bring back from the nether-regions if the price were right... but most Ebay projects tend to get bid too high. There are a lot of unknowns with that one, in addition to the routing.

From RIC's facebook page - a one-off 4000 in flat black.
Relocated 3000 Series pickup
On-board overdrive
Vinyl b/w/b/w pickguard (unfortunately the double-hump shape)
Laser etched TRC
The fretboard looks unfinished but I could be wrong about that.

I must say, this one reminds me of some cheap knockoffs with the treble pickup too close to the bridge. It just looks wrong.

Not unlike what the butcher did to the V63 and S8 above! It's cool, unique, different. Not for me, but I'm sure someone will love it.

The whole thing looks unfinished.  ???

When I first saw this I figured it would be an active bass, with a bass boost/cut. Overdrive seems an odd choice, and that pickup surely isn't going to deliver much if any low end? Not sure why Rickenbacker has gone with satin black finishes as of late. It reminds me of Gibson's 'Goth' range of ~ 15 years ago, and I don't think it sits very well with the Bubinga boards.

Going by my own experiences with Rick basses that have bridge pickups close to the bridge, with some judicious EQing that bass will scream, in a good way, and with tons of bottom end to it.
