I'm not a fan of black instruments (except 4003s and Buzzards), but I sure like this one!

Too much chrome to be gothic.

If a goth kid bought one of those, it might make him happy, and that might cause his head to explode.

That looks nice, but I agree that they should have blackened the fretboard.

They should have tinted the fingerboard black too.
...and how might one do that?

Gibson tints its ebony and rosewood boards all the time.  That is not the natural tone you see on them.

Pre frets I would imagine
but what if I were so inclined on my refin?

I am imagining:
Taping off frets (PITA)
Steel wool afterwards (wear on fretwire/fretboard damage)
...or just tint it all and leave 'em black?

Any opinions?

Fiebing's black leather dye (alcohol base), or their oil base dye: http://www.fiebing.com/Dyes.aspx

Get it at an art supply store, horse tack shop, shoe repair place etc. Allegedly this is what Gibson uses.

Thank you gentlemen!
I've seen alcohol based dyes at Stew-Mac also.

I've had time to discuss this finish option with my son
and although we both like it,
his concern was for the dye on the inlay markers as well.

Which is another valid point...
