Yesterday I saw a BBC documentary about U2

Yeah I saw that too - some fleeting views of some nice basses... I didn't know he was English either.

I saw the same documentary, but only the last bit. I saw him play this new 'Boots' song with a Thunderbird. I think it was a '76 - '79 one. Chrome pick ups and the three point bridge.

I have a very nice story about mr. Clayton, but I can't tell it. Just mark my words and I'll come back to it within half a year or something:)

As long as it's the thread that's being turned out, I don't mind at all!

I dutifully bought their new album. I hate to say this but as U2 albums go, it's fine. Clayton seems a bit more inventive than usual and people who loved early eighties U2 will be in ecstasy at their first listen (I DID NOT like early eighties U2, nor late eighties or mid just anything, ok?!), whereas the last two albums sounded a bit like trying to emulate Joshua Tree to me, the new one goes back even further. Plus you have a little of Achtung Baby experimentalism/grooves in it, but carefully measured not to alienate anybody.

I still don't know why this band rules the world, but I'm a hopeless minority on this.

My wife & teenage son really like them. Their good for a commercial rock band. They play with conviction and have talent. Just a matter of taste. I never liked the Stones, Bruce Springstein, Elton John, Dylan , etc.. Does not mean they are bad, just do not like them.

We've been working up "I will follow", when you play it all as downstrokes in a bit of a punk style (like everything we do!) it's anything but tame. ;)

Interesting statement considering both bands came out in the late 70s/early 80s.  ???

FWIW - I never liked REM either. U2 on the other hand floored me when I first heard Boy. Interesting times... I was into bands like UK and Brand X at the same time as U2 and the Police!
