My DIY Varitone-In-A-Box (VIAB)
« on: February 06, 2009, 03:26:43 PM »
I finally built that little devil! And it sounds cool. I used this schematic:

I put some extra switches so I can use the tap of the inductor or the whole inductor (TL019) for extra versatility. Also I can switch off the inductor and use the VIAB like a simple tone control with 6 capacitors to choose from. The caps I used are 1nF/3.3nF/10nF/47nF/0.22uF/1uF. There is a DEPTH control that adjusts the effect of the VIAB. I made that thing true bypass.

I recorded some clips with my geetard (Epi LP with bridge lipstick humbucker) and my Epi Tbird (full pups on), enjoy and excuse for my sloppyness.

(no-choike clips are with the inductor switched off, full-choke are with the inductor on its highest value -that's 7.70H- and half-choke are with the inductor on its lowest value -that's 1.60H. All clips are with the DEPTH full on for extra effect. Last 2 positions of the VIAB are VERY quiet)

edit: I tried to upload the files but I can't, it says the maximum filesize for attachments is 192kb!
Music was better when ugly people were allowed to make it.

Thanks guys! I used a metal box which contained sweets. I found it on a Lidl supermarket. German quality.
