wearing checks with stripes is a rather serious offense

It wasn't, back in the 60s.

Mark, you're just carrying on a longstanding tradition. In the late 70's early 80's, Peavey VERY publicly sponsored the Grand Ol' Opry and insisted that every piece of equipment used there be Peavey, so the house band took the Peavey chassis of all their new instrument amps and installed the "guts" of the same old Fenders (mostly) that they had been using for decades. Everybody got what they wanted out of the arrangement: the musicians kept the same stellar tones they were used to and Peavey became the go-to brand for literally millions of people who were convinced that they were buying the same equipment used by their idols. It also showed that the emperor, more often than not, is not wearing any clothes.

Ha, cool! The big Beatles tribute in Chicago - American English - does similar. The bass player has a Eden head stashed in a Vox box.

Here's my "ultimate Ampeg rig". '74 SVT head running a '71 BT-140 2x15 cab (with original JBL D-140 speakers) on the left, and a later 70s tilt-back 8x10 on the right. In the center is a '96 SVT III Pro driving a custom built 2x10 (cast frame Eminence from Ampeg PR410HLF)/1x15 (EVM 15L).

I can tollerate that ...  it's stuff like this that is is beyond defense:

That's hilarious.  I always wondered how many actual working cabinets were in the Van Halen 1980s stage sets:

And of course there's always Geddy Lee's take on the whole charade:

Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

Highlander

And then there was Henhouse...

... for some hot smokey chicken vibes...
The random mind of a Silver Surfer...
If research was easy, it wouldn't need doing...
Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

Angus Young does stadium gigs with a miked up 50w Marshall located behind the stage, so their wall of Marshalls is also fake

Richie Blackmore didn't even have a 50W, he just plugged into a line6 pod!

A friend used to have a Scorpions poster that had a nice angled shot of the Marshall stacks, but you could clearly see a little, wicker grill Boogie sitting on a stool with a mic in front of it on the side of the stage.  ;D

The guitarists in Whitesnake also worked with pods when we did support for them.
The Marshall stacks were all empty. The only thing inside was a nine volt battery for the pilot light in the amp head...

I've added a red 3v bezel globe, a double AA battery clip, and a toggle switch to my fake SVT head too.  When I come on stage I made a big deal about turning the amp "on" LOL

I seem to recall a BP interview with Cliff Williams years ago where he said his cabs were all fake, he used a hidden single 15.

Well, here it is finally.  This will be my rig for awhile!  I've run the tube gauntlet and for me, this hybrid set up is the best!  My brain is massaged and pleased by this rig.  It's all a matter of taste and the output and tone of this set up is as tasty as it gets.  The ability to dial in extra lows below 160 Hz with the EQ and enhance it all with a little bit of compression is the perfect combination of settings for me.  And, the speakers can handle it all and perform as I desire.  As a bonus, I'm keeping the Scout as a backup.  Ah.....life on a Mesa.

I'm fixin' a hole where the rain gets in..........cuz I'm built for a kilt!
