Back in the day, I could have written a Top 10 list "Best Albums/CD's of The Year."  Now, between downloading, reissues, and my work and family cocoon I can only name one for 2008.  Most of this year I spent dumping great bassplayer recordings from iTunes to my Nano.  Please share your favorite releases/technology/movies/female athletes/etc of 2008 on this thread!

Here's my contribution for best of '08: Trouble All Its Own by Boxcar Satan.  I love these guys - from San Antonio Texas, lots of Tom Waits/Ken Nordine meets Zeppelin and Delta Blues.  The bass player's tone is FAT and overdriven.  Certainly a musical detox from all the Holiday music!

Share your "Best of/Favorites from 20008" please!  Rock on.

I gotta say..........I love AC DC.
Malcom's guitar tone is the #$@*, love the production overall.

Resident T Bird playing Drag Queen www.thenastyhabits.com  "Impülsivê", the new lush fragrance as worn by the unbelievable Fräulein Rômmélle! Traces of black patent leather, Panzer grease, mahogany and model train oil mingle and combust to one sheer sensation ...

I read that they're opening for Eugene Chadbourne next weekend. What an odd pairing. At an art gallery, no less, in S.A.'s "alternative" arts district.

Not my kind of band, still I have to hand it to 'em for keeping it going for so long. Especially considering how the local live music scene has deteriorated.

The only "new" release I bought this year was The Gits Movie, which was finally released this summer. But I already had all their music, and the band died when Mia was murdered. Hard to believe that was 15 years ago.

What?  No music that Coldplay has plagiarized on here?

They don't plagiarize new stuff, they wait a few years.

WHITESNAKE~GOOD TO BE BAD

Last year my fav was Gary Hoey~Made In America. It's Gary's debut as a singer & he does an EXCELLENT job.
Been listenin' to that a lot this year too!!
Got his Ho Ho Hoey II Christmas tonight & just listened to it. Pretty damn coool
Got his album of covers performed LIVE too & that's goin' on next....Hocus Pocus LIVE
Gonna try & catch him at the Voodoo Lounge next week.... Gettin' AMPED!
His band was AWESOME as a Power Trio & now he's added a 2nd guitarist so I'm eager to hear how great they'll be as a QUARTET!!!!
The new cat--Bruce Bennett--is very cool & may get me in...I made friends with him on myspace.

Best new Technology Category:

The new Gen. 4 Nano iPod.  The 16GB one - it holds 5000 songs! I'm not to watch video on that little thing, but in theory I can listen to over 13 DIFFERENT songs a day during the course of an entire year.  That's a long way from my old 8-track player!

No one's picked the new Crüe or new Def Lep or new Metallica....

So far I've only bought WS & Def Lep...almost bought Death Magnetic but couldn't quite do it.
I may get AC/DC's loooooong awaited new one.

Oh~ I just got Loreena McKennitt's new one--A Midwinter Night's Dream.
The best tracks on it are the 5 from her mini-disc A Winter's Garden.
I highly recommend her great album from last year An Ancient Muse.
That's my most played album of this year. ...that & Anoushka Shankar's RISE!!
RISE was released in 2005.

... or the "new" Guns and Roses.   Man, I've got some listening to do and get caught up.   Lots of Metal releases I've haven't heard yet.  AC/DC was just in town last week too.

A few of my favorite musical discoveries of 2008 (not necessarily new bands, but new to me  :) ):

Goatsnake - Kinda like Whitesnake, but completely different.

My YouTube guilty pleasure of 2008 is Julia Nunes. Uke-playing pop singing college student from somewhere in New York. She's gone from playing in her dorm room to opening for Ben Folds. Well over 50,000 subscribers now.

See if you can watch this all the way through without smiling.  :)

Oh yeah~ I also bought Professor Satchafunkilus & the Musterion of Rock!
Man, I forgot about this great album! It's been gettin' played A LOT in my van.
Just brought it in to ROCK to in my home--gonna play the Bonus DVD finally tooo
I've really grown to LOVE this album. The robot vibe of the thread title track reminds me of Y&T's ol' mascot in the 80s--ROCK the robot.
Fav track is #9~ Asik Vaysel---whatever that means. Starts out sounding Middle Eastern then gets WILD & HEAVY!!
Track #10~Andalusia is KILLER too!! Sounds like Al DiMeola! Joe plays some acoustic guitar on it, but mostly it is WILD & HEAVY too!!
Track #6~Come On Baby is one of his CLASSIC Sa-weeeet mellow toons. Luvvit

Joe's stuff all sounds similar but each track is unique. Well...
Most every track really does have something special about it.
Ok, not EVERY track on every album. lol ...but many, many of 'em are topnotch.
Joe ROCKS! ...& Campitelli is a fine drummer!
Joe plays Bass on 2 tracks & "bass bits" on the Professor Satchafunkilus track in addition to Matt Bissonette who plays on all the rest & is my fav Bassmon with Satch.
Joe plays piano on Out of the Sunrise & ALL guitars this time around.

It was great to see the FREE show at Hollywood Guitar Center in April!
Joe talked a lot about this album between playing along with pre-recorded tracks.

I discovered Foghat, who I gather are/were pretty big in the States, but are totally under the radar here. If I'm feeling down, "Roadcases" will cheer me up. Black Keys keep doing good stuff.

If I hear another Coldgreenrazorpatrol song I'll throttle someone.
