wow, only a burst finish available for the tbird!  doesn't seem like it would be too hard to spray some other colors.  I know they're pushing the 'traditional' angle, but still...

the guitar of the month program makes more sense; look at all the gow basses on ebay.  I don't know if the guitars sold any better, but if they did, I think Gibson would have stuck with gow.

I like that sg diablo, but it would really nice with chrome hardware. ;D

The bigger thing is the 5 string T bird missing. I would snap one of theses up while dealers still have them.

It's the industry standard!

Everybody has copied the design, you see so many of them on other brands.

Are they kidding?

Is Uwe working for Gibson now? They too are claiming that black pickup covers sound better.

the Thunderbird IV is equipped with Gibson's new TB Plus ceramic magnet humbuckers with black covers to deliver a massive, powerful bass tone.

I like the description of successes in the Guitar of the Ebay Dumping Ground Week:

Last year's lineup produced some instant classics—the Reverse Flying V, the SG Standard Silverburst, the Firebird Zebrawood, and the Les Paul Antique Classic Artist Series.

Basses?  We don't need no stinking basses!!
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

I thought the inherent sonically superior qualities of the TB Plus were undisputed even among the most fervent chromie-halflings and that you kids were just obsessed about the look?

I guess they could bring out a chrome (or nickel) hardware TB now just to do something different after 21 years of black hardware on them, but the way they have now scaled down their bass program to just two models, each one of them available in one fin only, I wouldn't hold my breath! We'll probably see a lot of ltd. run alternative fin TBs this year, I can't believe they will just stick to sunburst.

Wonder whether at least one of those 12 GoM will be a bass? Doubtful.

Keeping what sells and discontinuing what doesn't. How dare they!  :P ;D

If the limited edition colors and maple top and faded versions had sold well, you wouldn't see non-authorized dealers selling "unplayed" ones on eBay for well under the authorized dealer MAP.

rockinrayduke

At the risk of sounding like a dumbass, what is GoM or GoW?

Dave W

Their Guitar of the Week program from last year, which will now be Guitar of the Month. Again, I imagine the reason for the cutback must be because the sales weren't as good as expected.

Damn, now I guess the other colored Thunderbirds are going to be going up on eBay for a while at least. I need another white one, too.

Somehow I just think there will be at least one bass in the GoM....perhaps that nice red 'Bird that was in the NAMM photos. I'd be fine with that. I think we should be glad the Bach NR's aren't too far from coming into being and take some solace in that......holding your breath waiting for Gibson is.........obviously not a good idea.
