Forgot to mention the new Ashdown basses, long and short scale, they seem nice, $320

I had no idea you could make a Fender Jaguar Bass THAT ugly. No mean feat from those Ashdownians.

It supposedly has high output pickups. That's not a characteristic of classic Danos.

They should probably say "slightly hotter"

I doubt it's going to be Stingray hot. These are still lipsticks , there's only so many wraps around a bar magnet that will fit inside those tubes.

Danos have a unique charm , the designer cut every conceivable corner he could to make them cheaper.

These , by design , were the best student priced instruments they could build (by New Jersey housewives with little to no woodworking experience)

I don't understand quite how it happened , but I fell for them. They weigh next to nothing , but they're tough as nails. They do sound good , and really are fun to play.

I love them.

You're probably right. Still, I wouldn't want to change the tone of the pickups by adding any more windings.

I had never heard a Dano clearly up close until I heard the late Billy Bacon play his. He had a late 90s reissue Longhorn with flats. I couldn't believe how good it sounded.

They are great sounding basses with a good amp.

The Ashdown looks a bit barren and featureless? Like a small face on a big head. Small pickup, small knobs and miles of empty land in between them.

Well you have just described a Firebird I  ;)

Firebird I......

I don't play guitar well at all, but I dig this one!

Resident T Bird playing Drag Queen www.thenastyhabits.com  "Impülsivê", the new lush fragrance as worn by the unbelievable Fräulein Rômmélle! Traces of black patent leather, Panzer grease, mahogany and model train oil mingle and combust to one sheer sensation ...

Yeah, that's one cool mother! Wish Epiphone could make the T-bird with one pup, the II. That's a beauty. Don't know why, but it's the one pup that gets got my attention. But I don't wanna sound too selective: The three pup Firebird got me drooling!

Why does it have to be unused?

Valid point, we have to make do.

Thank you.  I must now go report to my wife that I made a valid point.

I guess I wasn't clear enough: the Firebird I is the most elegant of the series.
