That’s an overdrive effect that does not need batteries.
I believe it works with diodes.

Amazing color match, Mark, why didn't they give you a cameo in the new Barbie movie (yes, I saw it)?!

The Mod collection bass doesn't look half-bad, the passive distortion is at least an idea.
