EB0F project body, what to do?
« on: March 28, 2023, 07:02:47 AM »
This EB0F body will be arriving soon, just what I need another project. I am toying with a full restoration or just turning it into a ratrod. The only decision I've made are keep it short scale and include a fuzz or distortion circuit. Other than that I'm open to ideas.

Bring it back to its former glory.

Try to find a Maestro Fuzz.
Make a neck. Maybe use a spokewheel trussrod to avoid having to cut out a trussrod cavity at the top nut?

Finding the bakelite covered mudbucker is going to be a challenge.
Maybe you can have one printed in 3D?

I'd love to find a original neck. Not the easiest task if anyone runs across one let me know.

Even without an original neck or pickup, I'd try to get as close to the original as possible.

Didn't know the later ones had the pickguard in two separate pieces.

And it looks like the body that Scott scored matches yours better than the pics I posted. Since yours does not have the shoulders at the neck joint area?

I looked back at an older photo that I took before the second refin to see if some of the shoulder might have been sanded off.
It must be more pronounced in the first year than it is in the last.

I have a '63 EBOF, Scott. Let me know if you need transistors for the fuzz circuit, I bought a few extra when I did mine. If you go for the bakelite cover, it' s easy enough to build, by glueing two sheetets together. Broken bakelite radios are ample in supply, both black and brown🙂

That's very generous thank you.  Yes I would definitely like them!

Those Bakelite covers look quite challenging to make? Essentially an outer ring and inner raised section with the holes for the poles?

All examples I've found online look a bit hand made, with nothing quite square to anything else. How were the originals made?

And so it begins! I already have a 60's Sidewinder and anchors. :)

I'm sure you will find an EB0 or EB3 with a mutilated body, sooner or later. People were merciless to these basses in the past!
