The husk of a Goth Thunderbird, an SX parts neck and a pair of Chinabuckers walk into a bar...

I like it! Very stylish. Is it stained brown?

That looks great! Very understated! Love the block neck, my first Fenderbird build back in 1981 had a 74 blocked Jazz neck it looked great but it had a S curve so it had to go. Your build is beautiful,  thanks for sharing.

Yes and no. What you see is what is underneath what seemed like the half-inch or so of flat black paint that they put on a Goth Thunderbird. I reckoned that if I kept sanding, I wouldn't have much wood left. The "brown" center raised section is a multi-layered piece attached to the main body, front and back. No clue as to what kind of woods that piece is made of, but it is definitely dissimilar to the mahogany that makes up the main body. My initial intent was to paint it, but the luthier that routed the neck pocket and pickups for me said "I think it looks kind of cool the way it is.", and I'm all for simplicity. The "wing" areas are just flat black that is still in the grain.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys. It's got plenty of novice-incurred warts and was definitely a budget build.
