Which floats better, mahogany or maple?
I'm optimistic. I hope we won't have to find out.

I love it when Dave cuts thru the bullshit and focuses on what's really important.
In this case the choice wouldn't be worrisome though, just avoid the bass with the ebony board!
Any wood that has a density greater than that of water (1 g/cm^3) will sink. Some of the many woods that will sink include Cocobolo, Coralwood,
Ebony
, Eucalyptus Mahogany (New South Wales), Gaboon, Greenheart (British Guiana), Grenadilla (Mpingo), Ironwood (black), Lignum Vitae, Satinwood (Ceylon), and Water gum.

15 vintage basses, guess I could sell 2 or 3 if I had to. And two old uprights and two guitars. Really happy with the current state of affairs.

I'm at a dozen, although some are seldom played. I also have an NXT electric upright that I keep telling myself to spend time with...usually to no result.

I've revisited the subject for us all:

Apparently then, your chances holding on to a TBird as your lifesaving plank are better than attempting to do this with a Ric.
