I lost interest after awhile since the owner of Texas Toast Guitars hadn't posted any updates in at least a couple of years. Then this Monday the owner of the bass posted in the Vintage Gibson Bass group on FB that he had finally gotten it back.

Starting at the 15 minute mark, you can see the finished product. I have to admit, it looks really nice.

Two years and they didn't install the strap button. And the contouring on the horns is so wrong. They could have at least looked at another Gibson and copied the bevel, but they didn't.

I dig the bridge improvement. Smart men.

In his first video, he mentioned replacing the Badass with a Hipshot. Obviously he was overtaken by a bout of insanity somewhere along the way.

If you look at the original, in his first video, I don't think he modified it much if at all. Hard to tell.

Sorta looks like an Epi EB0 with that new chrome three pointer on there.

I feel like there isn't a right answer here. I sort of liked the period mods to the bass. Fully cleaned up it looks like too much mojo was erased for something that still doesn't pass as a '60s EB0? What is a sensible halfway measure?

I'm thinking a nice repro sidewinder, repro '60s P Bass pickup and a tidier control setup might have been cooler. Keep the Badass as well?

Whether you like certain aspects or not, it was lovingly done with a lot of care.  And if it even sounds good too, what the heck! It was a beauty operation rather than a slaughter.

With the bass re-topped and refinished, I'd opt for an EB3 conversion.

Kinda surprised they went with a 3 point vs something that would work on the original 2 point studs - there's options including tracking down vintage parts.

Remember, there's  a new layer of mahogany on top of the original body.

Which would trigger critics to accuses it of being a plywood bass??
