Nordstand has been selling a funky little shortscale they call the Acinonyx . Almost ordered one last night , came to my senses at the last minute . But they're funky . The overall look has that mid 60's Italian influence , and true to form they have a scad of buttons . Eight , in fact .

They've only got  some black/tort ones left it seems , until the next shipment comes in . It might be a while .

I'd be worried to unintentionally hit those buttons while playing. Especially while playing with a pick.

They are great! I played the first US versions, before the imports came in. You really have to push in the controls like on an old radio, so no worries about that! I love the knobs.

There's a good pic of the controls on this page:

The left four buttons are both pickups, neck, bridge and mute. I believe it goes from parallel into series if you push in the neck and bridge button together.

The right four buttons are passive tone settings: flat, tone off, heavy tone off and mid notch.

Carey is a genious so it works well.

Same here. I rest my thumb at the end of the neck or at the neck pickup, so that area needs to be clean. Other than that, a fine looking bass👍

I'm fingerstyle only to and I found no problems using the neck and bridge pickup as thumb rests.

I don't get money from any bass sold, haha, but I tried it. So try it first!

Ed Friedland did two great reviews and loved the Acinonyx , he's been dragging it out for gigs so that says something .  So it's been on my radar for a while .
There were some pickup/tone button combinations that seemed to perfectly dial in that rich , deep , old school thump that I look for .
And it's nice to see something that isn't patterned after a Fender bass .
They seem to just be available directly through Nordstrand .

The Netherlands has a dealer and he's constantly sold out.

Bob Glaub has two, Juan Alderete has one.
