$2,899, both SOLD

Not a true 4002 but the main feature, Fender J pickup locations, is there. Single truss rod.

There's also what they designated 4003 SPC Satin Tobacco, basically an Al Cisneros Sig with CB, 3-tone sunburst and without the hideous green inlays - still for sale for  $2,999.

LOVE that green one, though I'm not crazy about the maple fingerboards they've been using on some models lately. One of these days I'm doing a custom 4004 with a 4002 pickguard.

Love the 4002s, thumbs down on that sunburst.

I think they used a single truss rod because the 4002 doesn't have a neck pickup cavity that allows access to the acorn nuts. Original 4002's had hairpin rods that could be pulled out from the headstock end.

I wish they'd make the 4002S a production model.

I think you're onto something there. It first showed up on the 4003AC model, which also does not have a neck pup route.

And one more comment on the fingerboard - think how nice that green would look with the Caribbean rosewood.

I don't recall ever seeing the 4002S before now.

In a lot of ways, it addresses some of the issues I was solving for when I designed the Ridler.

It makes me wonder why they didn't use that pickup layout when they built the 4004L.

One of my biggest regrets . We used to have a fine little used/vintage shop . The owner thought a used Ric was worth about $1200 .
He had a mapleglo 4002 , yup , I could have bought it for $1200 .
Thought I had all the Rickenbacker I'd want at the time . All I had was an 80 fireglo 4001 .
Still kicking myself .
Ginger looked at it too . She's the one with the fretless 4002 she ordered new . She's still kicking herself too ...

The "4002S" are recently made experimental basses, not new models available to order - so far. The Al Cisneros is a limited production model.

Those Al Cisneros basses have never grown on me. They are too personal to Al, in terms of design. I would rather delete the convoluted bridge pickup assy, rather than duplicate it!
