Drum On?

Joey hasn't been well for a while, but not letting him play at the Grammys was a cheap shot - if they had concerns of him holding up, they could have taken a second drummer along for those two songs and everyone would have understood (Mick Fleetwood has had a second drummer on stage for years, just behind him). Leaving Joey out looks horrible. Aerosmith is probably the only band of their early 70ies generation with the original line up still completely intact, that is something to cherish.

Very sad behaviour from both sides.
Aerosmith have been a business driven company for quite a while.

What was the last half decent album they put out? Can't remember.

I heard that Mr. Kramer may have been through some rehab recently. Part of what might be happening is the band wants him to commit more fully to sobriety before letting him back in the fold. Just something they were talking about on morning radio around here. Somebody also theorized it could be a ploy to drum up more interest in the band for their next tour. What a crazy and amazing situation. Joey is Cryin' cause he doesn't want to miss a thing but if he thinks the band will let him back he better dream on.  ;D
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

But that's only recently!  ;)

Aerosmith had great singles and songs, but they were never the most consistent album makers - some bands just aren't (the Rolling Stones for instance - they only have one front to back truly great album and that is Sticky Fingers). Of the first phase, I'm torn between Toys in the Attic and Rocks, by the time they had outside writers I think Pump was the jewel in their crown, there is a lot of catchy songwriting on that one even if phoned in. Funnily enough, I never thought Rock in a Hard Place - with both original guitarists gone - a bad album or even Night in the Ruts with Whitford remaining, but Joe Perry AWOL after one of his usual ego flare-ups.

Just Push Play is their most horrible one by a stretch.

Aerosmith's last album was the 2012 "Music From Another Dimension!" It got mixed reviews. I think some of the band members liked it and others said they didn't know if they ever wanted to do another album again.  I don't remember who said what now, but I'm pretty sure Tom Hamilton was enthusiastic about the album.

His songs were among the best, but mostly only available on the extended version. It was an album conceived by a committee. Not awful, just underwhelming.

The deluxe version definitely had some of the best songs.  By the time I had finished listening to it, I was glad I got that version.  I think that version was more for the hardcore fans.  I was buying the CD for a friend who fell into that category and, of course, decided to buy one for myself, too.

I got it at a discount at a drugstore.  So it was actually worth it.  But when I told my friend who is such a big Aerosmith fan, she let it be known that the album was one of their worst.  However, I think there are some fans out there who like it.

Thanks, I should have thought of that.

According to this article, "Music From Another Dimension!" was released by Columbia when it was going through leadership changes, but was not, of course, a commercial success.
